About

Enterprize Energy is a pioneering energy developer addressing the challenges defining the energy transition. Dedicated to enabling energy generation where the resource is highest, Enterprize Energy's innovative, international thinking has enabled almost 5 GW of development projects to be secured since 2018.

All Enterprize Energy concepts and projects are designed to promote sustainable, circular economies within the global energy market – fostering mutually beneficial growth from inception through to construction.

History

Enterprize Energy’s story goes back to February 1999, with the founding of predecessor company Eclipse Energy and the development of the Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm.

The development, designed to integrate and export electrons from wind and natural gas power generation, was consented as a subsidy-free hybrid, (the gas economics supporting the new offshore wind technology). Together this brought the co-located stranded gas assets and the wind farm's energy to commercial production. Ormonde was the first offshore wind project to apply the ‘Rochdale Envelope’, permitting regime to the industry’s leading and largest, (at the time) 5MW offshore wind turbines, on steel ‘jacket’ structures - a world first.

The innovative dual-fuel scheme was ahead of its time and upon the acquisition by Vattenfall in 2008, led only to a subsidised offshore wind farm being commissioned. 20years later, the global energy industry is now awakening to Enterprize Energy's original vision – to transition global energy markets.

From2009 to 2014, Enterprize Energy sought to develop offshore wind in the US Gulf of Mexico. Its ‘GoWind’ demonstration project received U.S. Department of Energy support for the design of a foundation structure that would be resistant to hurricanes and typhoons.  This design was applied to opportunities in Asia leading to the establishment of Enterprize Energy's subsidiary, Yushan Energy and the 1,044MW Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm development, Taiwan.

With our establishment of the business in Asia, Enterprize Energy approached the Government of Vietnam to seek consent to evaluate the Thang Long Offshore Wind Development Zone, an area of approximately 2,000 km2 and were able to proceed with site survey work from July 2019 for the 3,400 MW projects.

Philosophy & Vision

From the inception of our first hybrid energy project, Ormonde in the Irish Sea, to our green energy projects in Vietnam and Taiwan; innovation has been at the core of Enterprize Energy's vision for future power generation. To accelerate the energy transition, to realisation of carbonless energy, clean water and the hydrogen economy we shall work with energy and downstream businesses around the world in maximising the use of existing assets and marginal reserves to transform the energy market in the shortest time possible. The focus will be on raising the value chain of wind-derived output for benefit of our shareholders, stakeholders, society and the environment.

In the same way that ingenuity, innovation and a desire to progress humanity, resulted in oil and gas being recovered from the most technically challenging sites; Enterprize Energy will use those same skills and dynamic to the application of marine based renewable energy solutions to provide long-term sustainable and scalable opportunities. Our team is committed to progressing energy projects that not only encapsulate UN sustainable development goals, but demonstrate to the rest of the world, that green energy is at the heart of the next energy evolution.

Ian Hatton

A geologist with over 30 years’ experience working within the energy sector, Ian was the Founder and Chief Executive of Eclipse Energy where he conceived and developed the ‘Gas and Wind to Wire’ concept of Offshore Energy production, the Ormonde Project in the UK.

Eclipse Energy was bought by Vattenfall in 2009 whereupon Ian established Enterprize Energy to continue develop and exploit Offshore Wind opportunities, forming Baryonyx Corp in the US to examine and move forward with Offshore Wind opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico and in 2013 Yushan Energy to focus on opportunities in Asia.
Ian commenced his energy industry career as a geologist with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1979 in the NW Europe offshore energy sector.  He was involved in offshore operations through the planning of drilling and technical subsurface supervision of production wells.
Joining Kerr-McGee Oil (UK) PLC in 1984 he was ultimately Director of Exploration, with responsibility for building and maintaining business relationships with UK and other national government departments and partner companies. Here he managed drilling of an exploratory well in the Lyme Bay, Dorset, one of the most environmentally sensitive marine environments in the UK, he ensured a meticulous programme of environmental base line analyses and pre-operational planning was completed over a two-year period prior to the drilling of the well, without incident in 1995.
He left Kerr-McGee in February1999 to found Eclipse Energy.
Ian received his B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Geology from the CNAA/Polytechnic of North London in 1979.
